Two organizations are kind, long-time partners. The last meeting of the Belarusian and Chinese peacekeepers was held in 2002, so the need to refresh the relations, giving them a more practical character, in the conditions of the new challenges of the XXI century, has matured.
The delegation from the Belarusian side included the chairman of the board of the Belarusian Peace Foundation, the deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Maxim Misko; Member of the Board of the Belarusian Peace Foundation, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Irina Dorofeeva; First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Alexei Sokol; Advisor to the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in the People’s Republic of China Sergei Vergeichik.
The Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament was founded in June 1985 and is the largest non-governmental organization in China. The association includes 25 largest public organizations, such as the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the All-China Federation of Youth, the All-China Women’s Federation, the Writers’ Union of China, the Union of Chinese Lawyers, the Chinese Association of Physicians, the Chinese Red Cross Society, and others. Also, the Association included organizations representing the main religious confessions of China.
The main goal of the Association is to promote mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between people, both in China and throughout the world, the struggle against the arms race in the name of preserving peace, as well as promoting harmonious and sustainable development.
The Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament is cooperating with 300 non-governmental organizations from 90 countries, has consultative status with ECOSOC at the United Nations.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on topical issues of peacemaking, enhancing the role of people’s diplomacy in the face of new challenges of the 21st century, and agreed to sign an updated memorandum on cooperation between organizations during the response visit of the delegation of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament to Belarus.
One of the most promising programs of cooperation with partners from China, the Belarusian Peace Foundation considers the program “People’s Diplomacy”. This program is aimed at strengthening the role of non-governmental organizations in the preservation of peace, strengthening mutual trust, harmony and friendship among peoples, including Belarus and China, implementing joint projects involving broad segments of the population of different ages and social groups.
Within the framework of the “People’s diplomacy” program, the chairman of the board of the Belarusian Peace Foundation Maxim Misko suggested in the near future to organize cooperation in the implementation and development of the following projects:
A network of schools of peace in the Republic of Belarus has been established and is successfully functioning in our country. This project is one of the innovative forms of extracurricular work of institutions of general secondary education. Its purpose is to contribute to the strengthening of peace and security by educating and educating children on the basis of human values of humanism, justice, compassion, friendship, inculcating a culture of communication and social interaction, legal culture and conflict resolution skills, including through cooperation and implementation projects with their peers in other countries of the world. It is proposed to establish such cooperation between several educational institutions of different levels from the Belarusian and Chinese sides. One of the forms of their cooperation can be the mutual exchange of students and teachers for the exchange of experience of Belarusian and Chinese educational institutions in the civic education of schoolchildren in the spirit of a culture of peace and peacemaking.
To organize the implementation by the students of the “Youth Block” of the Belarusian Peace Foundation at the Belarusian State University, in cooperation with students of one of the Chinese universities, humanitarian projects in the territories of the two countries.
Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament Mr. Tao Tao, supported such an initiative and expressed readiness for more detailed study of the practical implementation of these projects.
For the weighty contribution to the long-term peacekeeping activity, on behalf of the Peace Foundation, Maxim Misko presented the Chinese National Association for Peace and Disarmament with the medal of the Belarusian Peace Foundation “Honored Peacemaker”.
At the end of the meeting, the friends exchanged souvenirs.
